Site for film distributor Velvet Spoon - home page view

Website for film distributor Velvet Spoon from Gdansk, Poland.

The website for Velvet Spoon, a film distributor from Gdansk, Poland, is a project in which we designed and implemented a website for an independent company specializing in genre cinema - horror, B-grade and non-standard productions coming to Polish arthouse cinemas.

Our task was to build the website from scratch — UX, artwork, copywriting and implementation on WordPress using Elementor PRO. The key challenge was to design a path that takes the viewer from a social media advertising campaign straight to purchasing a ticket for a specific screening in their city.

Description of implementation

A site for a distributor of genre films with strong characters

Velvet Spoon has a distinct identity - it brings films to Polish theaters that you won't find in mainstream distribution. The client didn't want corpostrons in garnet. He wanted an aesthetic that reflected the nature of the titles being distributed. On the other hand - the site had to be fully readable and transparent, because it is the one that handles traffic from paid campaigns promoting individual films.

We proposed a dark background that plays well with the pink Velvet Spoon logo and with the animated lead embedded in the background. We chose a simple font that doesn't compete with the movie posters and remains legible in photos and videos. The site works in both Polish and English versions.

Featured service

Calendar of screenings on the subpages of films

The most important element of the site is a custom screening calendar embedded on a subpage of each promoted movie. Before the redesign, a viewer clicking on an ad was taken to a list of all the theaters that had ever played the title - often out of date. He had to select a theater, go to the next page and only look for dates there. On this path, Velvet Spoon was losing viewers. We designed a solution in which the user from the ad immediately sees a list of current screenings in a given city - the date, time, name of the cinema and a ticket-buying button directing him directly to the purchase page of a given cinema.

We based the calendar on Jet Smart Filters and Jet Engine. A Velvet Spoon employee manually enters the data from the panel, and the theaters go to a shared database that can be expanded at will. This makes adding more screenings and new titles quick and easy, and the site supports the promotion of multiple movies in parallel.
